Our Story

Alma is an award winning Honduran restaurant located in New Orleans, located in the Bywater, just outside of the French Quarter. Alma is the flagship location of Araujo Restaurant Group and is a reflection of Owner and Executive Chef Melissa Araujo.

From Pollo Chuco, to Bloody Mary's and avocado toast Alma offers an extensive array of dishes focusing on Honduran Food.

Alma means soul in Spanish. Created to showcase Chef Melissa Araujo's Honduran heritage and take each guest on a journey through food and culture. The Soul has many stories to tell; Alma tells shares them through it's dining experience.

Chef Araujo’s Father was Born in La Ceiba, Honduras and her memories of her childhood are centered around this particular view of the city. The mountains in the back, the ocean, the cool air in my face, my best memories were made in this city. Alma has given me the opportunity to recreate these memories and share them with our guests.

Alma pay’s tribute to Chef Araujo’s grandmother and her cooking with hearty dishes like the Alma Breakfast, Baleadas and Pollo Chuco. This New Orleans cafe also serves delicious dishes like Carne Asada, Platano Maduro, Pupusas, and Marmahon

Alma has its roots deeply entrenched into Honduran tradition and celebrating Honduran culture, food, and music.

 

Alma currently offers breakfast and lunch in New Orleans, serving breakfast all day long. Chef Melissa Araujo opened this New Orleans Restaurant during the pandemic to be able to bring the comfort of food and sense of family and closeness to the greater New Orleans area. Alma has become well known as a great brunch restaurant in New Orleans and the best Honduran Restaurant in New Orleans. Our dining room is award winning and offers an array of Honduran cuisine items along with great cocktails. As a popular breakfast spot in New Orleans just outside of the French Quarter you can grab a delicious meal and Bloody Mary or Mimosa with your brunch or try a original cocktail off of our menu.
